Ian Snowley appointed Head of Higher Education at the British Library

Ian Snowley, has been appointed as the British Library's new Head of Higher Education. Ian will take up his new post on March 10th.
As Head of Higher Education, Ian will work as an ambassador for the British Library within the library and HE sectors to develop and strengthen the relationship with key institutions. A major part of Ian's role will be to work with libraries in the HE sector to identify and take forward shared service opportunities. One of his first tasks will be to support the ongoing work with the UK Research Reserve, designed to address the issue of acute storage problems in the research library sector.
Regarding his appointment Ian said:
"I'm delighted to be joining the British Library at an exciting period in the development of information provision in the HE sector. The success of the first phase of the UK Research Reserve project provides a great opportunity for the Library to work in partnership with HE Institutions and play a major role in supporting their information needs. I'm looking forward to building on my strong links within the sector and further developing the Library's position at the heart of the UK research community."
Ian Snowley, started his career in the London Borough of Redbridge in 1985 and held a number of posts in government department libraries before moving to the Royal Society of Medicine as Director of Information Services in 1999. Since 2006 he has been Director, Academic Services at the University of London, Research Library Services where he is responsible for academic liaison and collection development. Ian was President of the Chartered Institute of Library & Information Professionals (CILIP) in 2007.
Ian Snowley will report to Jill Finney, Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications.
