Valentine's Day Single Mingle
British Library
Wednesday 13 February
19.00-22.30
The British Library presents a relaxed and fun open house for single people on Wednesday 13 February, as part of its popular series of 'Mingles'. The event offers the chance to meet like-minded others and to enjoy the Library's galleries, temporary exhibitions and some special treats laid on for the occasion.
The event includes late access to the Library's current major exhibition Breaking The Rules: The Printed Face of The European Avant Garde 1900-1937, with its magnificent display of graphics, film, photography and magazines produced in an era of explosive creativity. Our Mingle therefore has something of an avant garde twist....
The event also features a range of intriguing attractions, games, competitions and quiz trails, as well as some on the night surprises to get people talking!
- Bookchase® A special demonstration and chance to play the rapid version of this new, hugely successful board game. It's the perfect game for anyone who has read a book (or two): beg, steal or borrow books for your bookshelf to win!
- Extraordinary bard Sean McCann composing instant sonnets that bring two people together - at least in words!
- Meet international flirting guru Marco Gambino for a personal tutorial on how to make the Italian art of seduction work for you.
- Win concert tickets or a meal for two by finding answers to cunning questions hidden away in the galleries.
- Find your famous literary partner and win a free drink.
Plus more to be confirmed.
Aileen Hickey, Marketing Officer at the British Library commented:
"The British Library singles nights have been hugely successful, attracting over 350 people each time of all ages, backgrounds and interests. With over 150 million items and 16,000 people through its doors on a daily basis, the British Library is the place for anyone with an enquiring and open mind to meet like-minded people. If you are fed up with loud clubs and bars, come and relax in the serene surroundings of the Library - with beautiful manuscripts, fascinating exhibitions and quirky architecture there is plenty to talk about and the special Valentine's activities and workshops are bound to break the ice."
"We always see lots of people leaving the events together - whether having made a new friend or a possible date for Friday night - and we have also seen one marriage so it just goes to show that love really can blossom over the books!"
