Sacred on Location
Sacred touring programme explores faith in the UK..

Sacred: Discover what we share (27 April - 23 September) is a groundbreaking British Library exhibition that brings together some of the world's most important and beautiful religious texts for the first time. Exquisite and rare examples of Jewish, Christian and Muslim sacred texts from the Library's collections will be presented alongside treasures on loan from other institutions in a unique and compelling modern context.

To tie in with the exhibition, the British Library has developed Sacred on Location. This engaging touring programme is provided in partnership with museums, libraries and heritage organisations. It will bring activities inspired by Sacred and based around the theme of faith, to a wider audience. All activities will be free of charge.

Sacred on Location launches at The Mitchell Library & Botanic Gardens in Glasgow on 27 April, before visiting more venues around the UK. Set inside a Mongolian style yurt, the programme will include various special events such as multi-faith workshops for primary and secondary school groups exploring faith, identity and belief, as well as story-telling and crafts activities for family and community groups. The programme aims to provide participants with a space in which to come together and contemplate faith and what it means to different people. The programme of activities is designed to appeal to everybody, both those of faith and those who have no religious belief.

Roger Walshe, the British Library's Head of Learning commented: "We hope that Sacred on Location will inspire communities to come together to contemplate and share their ideas and beliefs, whilst also learning more about world religions. The programme aims to promote a greater understanding of faith in the world today and we are particularly keen for local school groups to participate as part of their Religious Education studies".
